For those of you that know or remember FF Henry Butts. Henry will be here this week with his wife Sarah, who also worked with OCFRD, and their three children. Several of you who know about Henry’s visit expressed an interest in seeing them while they are in Orlando. Terise and I will be hosting an informal reception at our home on December, 29 at 6:30 P.M. Light munchies will be available as well as soft drinks and limited adult beverages. Please RSVP to Bobby’s email address and let us know how many will be attending.

Henry was an Explorer Scout at PCFD and later a FF/EMT with Orange County, He left OCFRD to take a position as Fire Chief of the Watertown, WI fire department where he has been in command for several years.

Come on out and see Henry, Sarah, and the kids!

A quick note about Tony Miller. Tony and his fiance recently survived a horrific accident that left his car unrecognizable. Both were injured and Tony was ejected from the vehicle and was flown to the hospital. I have been assured that with the exception of a few broken bones on both of them they will be fine. Both were released from the hospital and are convalescing at home. So please keep them both in your thoughts.

How many of you know that Tangelo Park had their own Fire / Rescue Dept? Here is a story penned by a very dear friend of Bobby Kasper. Bobby asked him to write a little peice on that tiny but important part of history PCFD was involved in.

photo2
Bobby,

Along about 1960 or 1961 we formed the Tangelo Park Fire and Rescue Department.  Several of us who had purchased homes in Tangelo felt we could use quicker responses to our issues.  At that time our coverage was from Pine Castle Fire Department which was a bit of a trip away from us.  Our nucleolus was a couple of Martin Marietta Security Guards that lived in the neighborhood.  With their guidance and training we began with Pine Castle assisting us with training, etc.

We had an old run down Ambulance and an Antique Fire Truck.  I think we bought the ambulance and that Pine Castle loaned us the old Fire Truck.  We took care of our neighborhood, surrounding close by highways and assisted the Florida Forestry People.  I remember taking the Basic Red Cross First Aid Course then an Advanced Course.  Several of us went to Ocala to the Florida Fire College for some additional Training.  As a point of humor I really got in trouble with the final test.  I had to extinguish a Pit of Fire (Motor Oil with a barrel of JP 4 Jet Fuel poured in on top).  All went well until I got to the last small section and the Fire circled up underneath me (reigniting the Pit) and thanks to my Instructor I’m still here without major burns.  Several times we were involved with drowning’s and emergencies at Lake Down at the edge of Windermere on Conroy Road.  Many a time I have stood in the middle of Conroy Road and directed traffic for hours.

There are a few interesting tales of Rescue Runs that I have remembered over the years.  Sometime maybe I can fill you in on them if you are interested.  This is about all I can remember.  Hopefully, this is what you were looking for.

To my OCFRD family,

I wanted to thank you all for your kind words and condolences; it means more to me and Jim's family than you could know.  I miss him so much and I don't know what I'm going to do without him, right now there's just a big hole in my heart that I don't know how I will ever fill. But I am glad for him because I know he can rest now. He is at peace and knowing that brings some comfort.  That and the kindness of all of you whose lives he's touched in his own unique way will help me to get through this sad time. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your kind thoughts and well wishes.   Jim would have been touched by it as well though if you really know Jim you also know that he never would have admitted it. Thank You for everything.

Sharon Santana

Bill Hoke passed this video along to the OCFRD retirees site.
Killed in action the week before, the body of Staff Sergeant John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in  Peachtree City ,  Georgia , just south of  Atlanta , on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in MCDONOUGH, GEORGIA. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time.

This video was taken during that trip

This page will be dedicated to keeping you up to date on current events like the Reunion as well as month to month functions that you might want to attend.

The Log Book page is a blog composed of two categories, the first being Sick Call where you may post information on your or another members health related issues. The second being the Log Entries where you may post information about almost anything you would like. Both categories will be moderated and your post will not show on the site until it has been reviewed. We would like to remind all who want to post information, anything posted will be seen by anyone who visits the page so make sure you or the person you are posting about wants this information made public.

The Photo Albums page is still under construction so be patient. We are choosing the best format for our site. We think it will be worth the wait.

Coming soon will be a “LINKS” page where you will find links to other sites like the OCFRD retirees site.

We hope you like what we are trying to do with the site and hope you visit often. If you have an idea regarding the site please feel free to email us using the Contact Us page.
